Nathan Smith

Nathan Smith is an Instructor at the American Institute of Nondestructive Testing, bringing 19 years of industry experience to his role. Over his career, he has worked across the country and across the field — from South Texas to the frozen North Slope of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska in a wide range of industrial settings, from paper mills to petrochemical facilities.

In 2018, Nathan assumed the responsibility of a Radiation Safety Officer, a milestone that marked the beginning of his lasting passion for teaching and mentoring new trainees and technicians. He firmly believes that mentorship is the best way to teach, and he brings that conviction to his work with students at AINDT every day.

In his spare time, Nathan enjoys road cycling and golf.

As a newcomer to nondestructive testing (NDT) at AINDT, I’ve embraced the opportunity to explore this field and its real-world applications. I thrive on learning new skills and leveraging them for personal and professional growth. Outside of work, I enjoy crocheting—my self-proclaimed “old lady” hobby—and cherish raising my teenage daughter while spending quality time with my partner, Mark, as well as friends and family.

With five years of experience at a prominent automotive dealership, I’ve honed my customer service skills, serving as the primary liaison between clients and the company. My responsibilities ranged from greeting guests and directing inquiries to managing complex tasks like ordering parts, processing insurance claims, following up on claims, and scheduling appointments. Mike Hamel

Boasting over three decades of expertise in Nondestructive Testing, including a distinguished 17-year tenure as President of Test Equipment Distributors (TEDNDT), Mike brings unparalleled industry acumen and forward-thinking vision to the American Institute of Nondestructive Testing.

In his new capacity, Mike will be actively engaging with our existing clientele, seeking to enhance our services to meet their unique requirements. Additionally, he will be instrumental in forging new partnerships and fostering relationships for AINDT across diverse sectors such as aerospace, oil and gas, manufacturing, nuclear, and beyond. Megan Flatt

Megan Flatt is the Admissions Program Coordinator at the American Institute of Nondestructive Testing. Megan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from North Dakota State University.

Zane Vastila

Zane is a seasoned Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) professional, having graduated from the American Institute of Non-Destructive Testing in 2014. With a solid background in various inspection methods, particularly in the pipeline and power generation sectors, Zane brings a wealth of hands-on experience to his new role as an instructor at AINDT.

His 20 years of prior experience in the beverage industry have honed his skills in assisting and guiding others, making him a natural fit for a teaching role. Zane’s passion for sharing knowledge and empowering others is evident in his enthusiasm for his new position at AINDT.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Zane values spending quality time with his family and exploring the great outdoors through travel, hiking, biking, and boating adventures. His adventurous spirit has led him and his loved ones to explore nearly all of the 50 states in the United States, creating cherished memories along the way.
Zane’s mechanical aptitude extends beyond his professional expertise, as he is interested in collector vehicles. With two of his own, he enjoys tinkering and restoring these vehicles in his spare time, further showcasing his passion for hands-on work and craftsmanship.

Maddie Bremner is the Administrative Specialist at the American Institute of Nondestructive Testing.

Introduction to Destructive and Nondestructive Examination $199

Many of those involved in the welding industry will be exposed to destructive and nondestructive testing at some point in their career. Wouldn’t it be great if you understood what the technician is talking about? What does CVN mean? What is shearwave? Why can’t we do MT on aluminum? What do you mean I shouldn’t try to radiograph a T-joint? In this 6hr course we will discuss the basics of Destructive and Nondestructive Examination methods and how they are used in the construction industry.

Aside from the various methods we will discuss, we will also go over the common NDT certification schemes used in the United States. Matthew Junkert is the Senior NDT Instructor at the American Institute of Nondestructive Testing.

Matt’s NDT career has spanned a multitude of industries bringing AINDT a rich diversity of experience and knowledge. This real-world experience is paramount when molding students into the next generation of NDT technicians, ensuring they gain the knowledge needed to become the future industry experts in Nondestructive Testing.

When Matt first began his career at AINDT it became clear that he had a natural talent as both an instructor and leader, that combined with his impressive knowledge of the various NDT methods propelled him into his role as Senior Instructor. His uncanny ability to connect with students on a personal level ensuring they bring out their maximum potential solidifies AINDT’s status of the world’s premier NDT training facility.

Matt is an ASNT Level III, AWS CWI and has an AAS in Nondestructive Testing. Additionally, he serves as a committee member for the American Welding Society’s subcommittee on CWI endorsement programs.

Jeff LeTourneau

Jeff LeTourneau is our Vice President of Operations where he found his passion helping students find their own careers and help professionals in the inspection business to further their education. Jeff oversees all departments and enjoys running the day-to-day operations.

Before starting with us, Jeff worked for the United States Air Force for 10 years as Non Commissioned Officer In Charge (NCOIC) and Safety Officer. While enlisted in the Air Force, he helped train and develop new recruits skills in sheet metal layout, fabrication and, welding. As his career developed he saw the importance in school and received his Construction Technology Degree, attended Airman Leadership School, and graduated from the NCO (Non Commissioned Officer) Academy. After Jeff’s years of service, He continued his dedication for education and training others with the skills necessary to succeed in their future careers here at the American Institute of Non Destructive Testing. He continues to help manage and stream line our online education and to give the students/businesses the best customer service.

In Jeff’s spare time he enjoys fishing and hunting. He loves the Minnesota weather and all things outdoors, where he can go camping with his wife and two sons.

Donald R Booth

Donald Booth is the CEO/Founder of the American Institute of Nondestructive Testing.

He began his NDT career in 2006 after attending Ridgewater College for Nondestructive Testing. After achieving level II certifications in 5 methods, he moved on to API 570 and 653 certifications, and currently holds four ASNT Level III certifications.

His career started on the North Slope of Alaska where he first worked as an NDT assistant. As time went by, he attained level II certifications in five NDT methods, worked in “BP Special Projects” department, and as an API 653 inspector.

One of the most enjoyable parts of his career was instructing assistants during their “On the Job Training”.

He founded the American Institute of Nondestructive Testing in Early 2013 with a vision of offering both online NDT training, as well as hands-on training in a fully equipped NDT training facility, creating the first ‘Hybrid” NDT training facility in the world.

Fast forward to the present and the American Institute of Nondestructive Testing has provided training for over 100 corporations and various government entities as well as, purchased a new facility to expand its operations while continuing to listen to their customers to provide that highest level of NDT training available.
