Everyday NDT

AINDT offers top-notch training in for an exciting new career in a variety of fields that will always be in high demand. But what IS NDT? Nondestructive testing creates a safer world for all of us in our daily lives. For example, at least 126,696,000 lug nuts were NDT-tested on the 7,918,601 cars sold in the US in 2014. 61,064 structurally-deficient bridges require NDT testing for their 215 million daily crossings. Since 2007, two notable bridge failures occurred in the US due to NDT-detectable problems. Starting to get the picture? NDT testing is used in just about every major field you can think of, including 1,726,359 miles of oil and gas pipeline in the US as of 2013. With 140,000 rail miles in the US, 2014 brought 295 derailments due to structural failure which NDT detects. NDT is an ever-growing field with increasing demand. Billions of airline passengers also benefit from NDT. If you're ready for an important new career in NDT, call today to speak to one of our instructors for more information. Competitive salaries and job placement assistance are all part of NDT. Call AINDT today! (855) 313-0325.

How Nondestructive Testing Helps Keep Railways on Track

By Olympus NDT Applications Team - January 31, 2017

"One of the oldest methods of modern transportation, the history of rail dates back nearly 500 years. With an expansive and aging infrastructure, railroads require constant support to maintain their integrity and operate safely.

Many types of nondestructive testing (NDT) techniques have been used to help ensure the quality of both the rail and the many components that make up a rail car. These methods range from the so-called “car knocker,” which uses acoustic resonance to detect cracked wheels, to the “oil and whiting” test used for fatigue crack detection in steam locomotive pins and axles. Currently, ultrasonic testing (UT) is the preferred method of NDT in the railroad industry.

Ultrasonic testing uses high frequency, directional sound waves to measure material thickness, find hidden flaws, or analyze material properties. UT requires the use of a transducer that transmits and/or receives the ultrasound signals being passed into the metal and a flaw detector to process the results. While UT is used in a range of applications, it is especially important for rail testing."

Exhausting Search for a New Beginning Ends in NDT Industry

"I graduated from college with a Bachelors. and upon completion began a career that I eventually came to loathe. After an exhausting search for a new beginning I came across the NDT industry. I became more and more excited in the thought of Testing as a career but the only issue was the difficulty of returning to education considering I have a wife and child. Eventually I enrolled in a local college that would have taken two years to finish and even though I had purchased books and was two days away from attending my first class I discovered AINDT. In a matter of 48 hours I dropped the local school and began my online education immediately through AINDT where 6 months later I was entirely done with all my course work and received 4 different job offers afterwards of which I accepted an NDE Assistant position with Mistras!"

Successful Start to Son's Career in NDT

"I am writing to let you know how happy my husband and I are with our decision to have our son Matthew train in NDT through your excellent program. As you know, he recently accepted an offer and began working at TEAM Industrial Testing in New Jersey. His training has him ahead of the curve for his position as an assistant Radiographer and that is a credit to your program.

Matthew is now working in refineries and power plants in and around the Philadelphia area and loves the challenge every day brings with his new career. He often talks of his great experience in the month of hands-on training in Baxter. The advice and life stories of your entire staff had a great impact on a young man who is both ambitious and excited about his future.

Matthew is the youngest of 6 children in our family, 5 of whom attended colleges and universities with varying degrees in diverse fields of education. It is safe to say his career outlook is as promising or even more so than some of his siblings. Your program casts new light on careers in the trade industry.

We wish you continued success with your program and will most certainly share our positive experience with others. Thank you again for giving our son a great education and an opportunity of a very bright future."

Sincerely,
Barb and Paul C.

"Ultrasonic phased array testing is a powerful NDT technology and one whose use is growing rapidly, however it can seem complex to a person who has not worked with it. This self-guided tutorial is a basic introduction to ultrasonic phased array testing, both for newcomers and for more experienced users who want a review of basic principles. It begins with what phased array testing is and how it works, then outlines some considerations for selecting probes and instruments, and ends with links to phased array application notes and a phased array glossary. In addition to text and illustrations it includes a series of interactive Flash files as learning tools."

New Nondestructive Testing School Opens in Baxter

Posted: August 6, 2013 - 8:52pmb2ap3_thumbnail_Brainerd-Dispatch-NDT-Training.jpg

A new school has opened its doors in Baxter.

The American Institute of Nondestructive Testing focuses on nondestructive testing, which helps assure that structural and mechanical components are functioning in a safe and reliable way. Technicians perform tests to find any sign of weakness.

For example, students learn to inspect products like car parts or bridges for flaws like corrosion, stress cracking, failure and fatigue.

It’s just one of five schools of its kind in the country, said Donald Booth, CEO and instructor. The Baxter location offers something the others don’t: online courses, Booth said.

“I wanted this education brought to the future by offering it in an online, condensed form,” Booth said. “There are people with bills, family and jobs. They can’t take two years out for school. I say let’s get them in and in a high-demand job.”

All courses are available on an iPad, iPhone or Android.

American Instutute of NonDestructive Testing Now Open!

Although there are signs of improvement in some areas, the general economic situation for much of the country is still less than desireable. Of course the best way to continue improving conditions is for people to have good-paying jobs so they can provide for their families and contribute to the economy.

Some of the most sought-after jobs today are skilled workers that are trained in specific trades, hence the advent of the American Institute of Nondestructive Testing. Located in Baxter, MN, the school provides certification in nondestructive testing (NDT) in as little as 16 weeks.

NDT helps ensure that structural and mechanical components perform their function in a safe, reliable, and cost-effective manner. Technicians perform the necessary tests to locate the indicators and discontinuities that may cause failures or shut downs in such systems. These tests are performed in a manner that does not affect the future usefulness of the object or material.

There continues to be a greater demand for people who have NDT certification, and the Institute also helps with job placement, where starting salaries are often around $50,000. Certification includes twelve weeks of online classes followed by four weeks of on-site training and application, which provides the experience to go along with the education.

Learning institutions who provide similar classes have reported waiting lists for this in-demand certification. The American Institute for Nondestructive Testing also has limited space and is expected to fill up soon. For more information call 1-855-313-0325 or visit www.trainingndt.com today.
